It appears that there was a "stalemate" regarding which bag of candy that they would purchase as each wanted something different and a bag of their own .. The frazzled mother warned that they did not need all that candy and they would have to share ONE and hurriedly decide which one they wanted.. but, neither side was willing to give in.. This was all out war being waged right there in front of the M&Ms..
The argument worsened and escalated into bursts of tears and I might add some "slightly higher pitched tones echoed in the aisles" I was bracing myself for glass to start breaking".. by this time the exasperated mother grabbed the candy from her kids and put it back on the shelf, and declared rather boldly "We are leaving, forget it, no one's getting anything now"!
Then suddenly... As if a miracle had taken place, a brilliant Red Sea moment right there in aisle 5... Both sides were willingly conceding, waving their white flags so humbly and in complete surrender.. I could almost hear the love boat theme song playing in my head.. Ahhhh bliss.. giving in was obviously so much better than giving up ...and getting ...gasp...zero candy!
I could not help but laugh to myself as I remembered those days when my kids were young.. I used to tell my very rambunctious boys to settle their own conficts and not to constantly tattle on one another..I implemented the infamous "unless one of you needs an ambulance, settle it yourselves" Law in our house..
basically.. "No one gets candy if I'm stepping in"... It takes two to fight.. There would always be both of their sides of the story "as they saw it" and the truth would actually be a subjectively skewed concoction of both.
I would over the years hear many threats of " I'm telling mom"! To which the other would add a screeching.."Noooooo!" and then a more agreeable settlement would result as they took turns waving the surrender flag..
Proverbs 26:17
Interfering in someone else's argument is as foolish as yanking the dogs ears
How many of us stand making our own stalemate situation with God? When He asks us to do something or to lay something down? We often stubbornly try to hold out, pleading our case, hoping for God to change His mind...He is perfect .. Omniscient ...and He will never grow weary.. How many trips around the mountain do we needlessly take? Do we even realize that our lengthy treks could be avoided if we simply were obedient to what God is asking us to do? How many of our blessings get put back on the shelf because we are too stubborn to give in?
Isaiah 40:28 Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable.
We CANNOT even search for the perfect understanding of God.. He knows what we do not.. if we are waiting for God to give in then we are going to spend the next 40 years in the wilderness.." I for one could not go that long with the same pair of shoes.. As the Bible says for 40 years their shoes did not wear out..gasp......of course I'm joking but it's a scary thought to be off the path that God has so brilliantly planned..We must enter into the promised land by trusting that God's plan is the ONLY PLAN FOR OUR LIVES..
why would we ever want to have anything God does not want us to have? How could that ever be good for our lives..?
Hosea 6:1
"Come, let us return to the LORD. He has torn us to pieces but he will heal us; he has injured us but he will bind up our wounds.
Let's surrender, let's concede, and turn back to the loving arms of our Heavenly Father! We must always try to be strong in Godly character.. let's trust God with our situations and know that He will make the crooked places straight in our lives if we will just let Him.
We have to stop complaining about our problems.. Grumbling, fault finding, blaming others, picking up offenses and letting them run wild. Repent, turn back and let God settle things.. When we do what we can, He will do what we can't..
God is not fond of injustices..
The trouble we face is merely a training ground to make us stronger and more able to capably face difficult situations in the future.
The Bible says in Proverbs 24:12 that God will repay all people as their actions deserve..
Be the bigger person, overcome evil with good, follow closely and obey God and His holy written Word. When we do what's right in God's eyes, even when we don't feel like it..we will be blessed!
